14 st 5 lb this morning. That’s 201 lb, or 91.2 kg, and another small step down from 14 st 6.5 lb.

Thirty-three pounds down from the 16 st 10 lb I started at. Just over two stone. I’ll take it.

A bag of sugar is usually 1 kg. Last week I asked a colleague to pick some up, and he came back with a 5 kg bag, purely to be funny. It was heavy. I hadn’t really thought about how heavy five kilos of sugar is until I was lifting it.

I know it doesn’t work like that exactly. Some of the weight is water, some is gut contents, some is lean tissue, and most of it is fat, which is a lot less dense than sugar. But the rough picture still holds. Three bags of sugar, gone, one bit at a time.

Nobody walks around carrying a 15 kg bag, so my brain doesn’t really register it. What I do notice is the bike.

Getting on to cycle to the station and actually feeling the difference is the bit that makes it real. The scale says I’ve lost 33 lb. The bike says I’ve lost a passenger.
