The First Chocolate in Weeks
A Tesco Finest Belgian Dark Chocolate Ginger Cookie, and the realisation I hadn't had chocolate in weeks. Turns out eating some doesn't mean I've fallen off anything.
The Chocolate Wasn’t a Failure
Tesco Finest Belgian Dark Chocolate Ginger Cookie, today.
Halfway through it, I realised I hadn’t actually had chocolate in weeks.
That’s not quite the same as not thinking about it. There’s a Tupperware box in the fridge with various bars in it, KitKats included, and it’s been there the whole time. I’ve just tried not to let it bother me.
There was a moment right after that realisation where some old instinct wanted to treat the cookie itself as a small failure. Weeks of not having any, and here I am.
It isn’t, though.
Not having chocolate for weeks was never the actual goal, and eating some today doesn’t undo whatever those weeks were.
And let’s be fair to the biscuit. This wasn’t a moment of weakness over a stray custard cream. The packet describes it as all-butter, dipped in rich Belgian dark chocolate, flavoured with fiery stem ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Whoever wrote that copy was doing their job properly.
I just fancied a biscuit, and it turned out to be a very good one.
Turns out you can go a long stretch without something and then just have it, without the whole thing needing a verdict attached.
It was a biscuit.
I ate it.
And then I carried on with my day.
